About WorldSkills UK

The competitions run both regionally and nationally each year in the UK and aim to help lift standards of training and performance promoting world class skills and international competitiveness.

Outstanding WorldSkills UK National Finalists may be considered for potential inclusion in a shortlist for the team that goes on to represent the UK at a WorldSkills Competition.

WorldSkills UK is supported by government, the Devolved Nations and a host of other partners across business, industry and the world of education and training.

WorldSkills 08/09 Review 2008/09

During 2008/09, WorldSkills UK registrations rose by 35%, compared to 2007/08. This rise has taken place within 84% of skills competitions, and has been evident in 75% of regions and devolved nations within the UK.

Five new competitions were added to our portfolio within 2008/09: Afro-Caribbean Hairdressing, Caring, Computer Game Development, Environmental Science and Heating & Ventilation. Registrations to these new skills competitions accounted for 10% of the 35% increase in registrations.

Of these registrations, the largest proportion (70%) originated from further education colleges and 45% of registrations were made by members of staff at these colleges. Read the full review here.
