About the competition - Autobody Repair - Closed

Panel technicians should have a sound theoretical knowledge of body repair operations as well as good practical skills.They should also have a thorough understanding of modern car construction and materials. With the development of new car technology, keeping up-to-date with changing repair processes and equipment has never been so critical. The competition is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) for body repair.

The different assessments include damage alignment diagnosis, MIG welding to BSI Standards, spot welding to BSI Standards, rectification of panel damage and panel removal, and replacement procedures for both bolted and welded panels.

Dates and venues of competition heats are not yet available; if you have registered already, you will be notified when you are able to choose which heat you would like to attend, if your competition is to have heats.

Competition Type: Mixed

Competition structure

Stage one: This competition is now closed.

Stage two: complete an online test.

Stage three:
highest scoring competitors from the online test are invited to compete in a heat during February/May 2010.

Stage four: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many can enter?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can be entered.

Who can enter?

The competition is intended for technicians working towards their S/NVQ Level 3 in vehicle body and paint operations. Competitors can be in education and training or working in
industry.

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 (for England, Northern Ireland and Wales), up to level 6 (for Scotland) or up to 5 years experience in a working environment.

Further opportunities

There is a City & Guilds qualification available for this competition.

There is the possibility of progressing to an International WorldSkills competition.
