Joan Scott, Assistant Principal, The Trafford College Group has been announced as the winner of the first WorldSkills Unsung Hero Award at the Tes FE Awards 2020.
The award, sponsored by NCFE, recognises the dedicated professionals who go the extra mile to support the competitors who take part in WorldSkills UK Competitions and who may go onto compete at the international WorldSkills and EuroSkills Competitions.
Dr Neil Bentley-Gockmann OBE, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “On behalf of everyone at WorldSkills UK, I want to congratulate Joan on this fantastic achievement.”
“Joan is the epitome of an unsung hero. A real grassroots champion who has worked very hard to achieve significant growth in the number of young people, not just who attend the Trafford College Group but right across the North West, getting access to the benefits our training programmes offer. I look forward to continuing working with Joan to encourage more young people to choose apprenticeships and technical education as a prestigious career route.”
Joan also led the Trafford College Group’s successful application to be part of the first year of the WorldSkills UK Centre of Excellence, which was announced last month.
Neil said: “I would also like to recognise and pay special thanks to the runners up in the WorldSkills Unsung Hero Award. Their commitment and support for our work means many more young people, throughout the UK, can develop their skillset and mindset to the highest possible levels so they can build their confidence and potential. We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.”
