Today (Tuesday 22 June 2021) we announced a partnership with WorldSkills Japan (Japan Vocational Ability Development Association, JAVADA) as part of our commitment to support the post pandemic global recovery.
This partnership will leverage international policies and best practice in skills development from Japan, which we will share with our education and employer networks throughout the UK. We will also be showcasing our technical provision here in the UK as we work to raise standards in technical education and apprenticeships.
We are delighted to be working with Japan on this exciting new partnership. Digitalization and carbon neutrality are two of the key policy priority initiatives for Japan for boosting the post-pandemic recovery and this reflects our priorities in the UK. We recently highlighted a concerning gap in digital skills provision in our report ‘Disconnected: Exploring the digital skills gap’ and we are working on a clean tech agenda ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference, COP26, in November. We look forward to sharing knowledge and working together to support young people to develop the high-quality skills needed by employers and investors in these important sectors.
WorldSkills International has welcomed this partnership describing it is a fantastic opportunity for its members to work together to drive up excellence in the quality and delivery of TVET, supporting its Year of Innovation in which it hopes to encourage more young people across the globe to take up skilled careers.
JAVADA and WorldSkills UK have enjoyed a long-standing friendship with each other as WorldSkills members. This partnership commits us to work together more closely towards our common goal, the pursuit of skills excellence. Each side will pursue many significant activities, such as skills development, best practice exchange and research. These are top priority items for the JAVADA’s mission.
This partnership will enable us to explore a pilot project to connect and benchmark Institutes of Technology in the UK with cutting-edge skills being delivered in Japan. The announcement follows the signing of our partnerships with WorldSkills Chinese Taipei and WorldSkills Korea (HRDKorea). We will be signing further partnerships in the coming weeks with countries including Russia, India and France. In total, we will agree 11 partnerships with WorldSkills members by the end of the year.
