Skills Champions are inspirational WorldSkills UK alumni ambassadors for apprenticeships, technical education and our programmes, crucial to empowering young people from all backgrounds to ‘see it, be it’.   

WorldSkills UK is raising standards and increasing uptake in apprenticeships and technical education, and need your help. If you’re passionate about your skill, want to inspire the next generation to choose high quality apprenticeships and technical education, understand the importance of skills and value of competitions, this is the perfect opportunity for you and to stay connected to WorldSkills UK.  

As a Skills Champion, WorldSkills UK will support you to continue championing the way for other young people, covering your travel and accommodation costs associated and helping you to share about your journey. 

We have a variety of opportunities to get involved, including digital and in-person events, creating case studies, speaking on panels and professional and personal training sessions.

Entry criteria

  1. Sign up, read and complete the agreement forms
  2. Have an onboarding call with a member of the team
  3. Complete your enhanced DBS check and start receiving the Skills Champion monthly newsletter
  4. Start getting involved! 

  • Must have taken part in a WorldSkills UK competition programme

  • Must complete the sign-up form and related agreements

  • Must complete an enhanced DBS check prior to in-person volunteering (provided by WorldSkills UK) 

  • Must be passionate and committed to the role

  • Must be over 18 years of age 

  • It’s important all young people can see themselves and identify with role models. Therefore, we strongly encourage and welcome apprentices and those from underrepresented groups to join us.

Who can be a Skills Champion?

Anyone who has competed or taken part in WorldSkills UK competitions. 

How much commitment is involved?

However much commitment you can manage. We share opportunities and if it works for you great, if not, there’ll be others. We cover your travel, accommodation and subsistence,  providing as much support as possible to help you to volunteer with ease.  

What happens next?

Once you complete the sign up form, a member of the WorldSkills UK Operations and Careers team will be in touch for a short introduction call and to go through your form.
