Renewable energy is a specialised field of engineering focused on the design, development, optimization, and implementation of technologies that generate energy from renewable and sustainable sources. This is a practical competition testing your understanding of design, fault-finding and troubleshooting, skills related to renewable energy with a view to develop your skills further. Tasks include mechanical assembly, electrical schematics & operation and PV Panel wiring. This skill encompasses various branches of the industry, including photovoltaic panels, wind turbine nacelles and the use of drone technology. Possible career pathways include Wind turbine technician, Solar PV technician and Renewable Energy Systems Integrator
Installing photovoltaic panels
Wiring and testing of photovoltaic installations with given components
Maintenance of a Nacelle
Designing and calculating photovoltaic systems
Ensuring safety protocols are adhered to and prioritised
Enhance learner preparation for competition with pressure tests (part of our benchmarking resources) to help master their technical skills, and mindset masterclasses to build personal skills.
Suitable for both students and apprentices studying level 3 and 4 courses in the following subjects: Electrical engineering, electrical installation, maintenance engineering and general engineering. Industrial experience is beneficial however not paramount. This skill is an individual competition therefore there are no teams in renewable energy.
Registrations open at 9am on Monday 3 March and will close midnight Friday 28 March.
Entry Stage will be released between Monday 3 March with a final deadline of 2 May, 2025 (Exact dates will vary by competition).
