Web Design

Web Designers use coding and software applications to design, construct and implement websites, using both creative and technical skills.

Competitors will receive a professional brief and must design a user-friendly, contemporary website from conception to completion in a live competition. The competition includes a range of competencies for web designers and developers.  The Competition will include the creation of a responsive website using material design that will be tested using Chrome and a smartphone emulator.

 

Entry criteria

  • This is an individual competition.
  • A maximum of 10 entries per organisation
  • Competitors must be familiar with the core competencies (these can be found in the Tools section below) and must be working towards, or recently completed in the last 12 months, a Level 3 QCF qualification if in the England or Northern Ireland, a Level 3 CQFW if in Wales, a Level 6 SCQF qualification if in Scotland or an Advanced or Higher Level Apprenticeship.

 

 Steps to taking part in this skills competition

  1. Register to enter this competition by 5 April 2019
  2. Competitors will be sent a link to a Passive Heat based on the region that will test their skills before the National Qualifier.
  3. The top 12 Competitors from each Regional Passive Heat will be invited to a National Qualifier during Spring/Summer 2019.
  4. WorldSkills UK quality assure the results between July and August and finalists will be notified by September 2019.
  5. Finalists will participate in the UK National Final at the NEC in November 2019 as part of WorldSkills UK LIVE.

 

What to expect after registration 

  • Following registration, competitors will receive an email to give access to a training website that will allow them to research and complete the online test paper.
  • The training website will be locked until 10:00am on Monday 8th April and will give competitors all of the tools and skills required to complete the online test paper.
  • The online test paper will be made up of two sections, design and coding. The online test will take three hours. Competitors will need to set enough time to not be disturbed and be able to work in exam conditions for three hours. The online test link will be sent via email on 3rd June and will be open for 7 days.
