Overview

This competition assesses the skills and abilities of competitors entering the field of Heavy Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.

The competition is designed to reflect the work role of a heavy vehicle technician, including skills such as time management, planning and problem solving.

This competition is managed by The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) in collaboration with Scania, MAN Truck and Bus, DAF, Hickeys, Electude and WABCO

Competitors should be able to:

Entry criteria

  • This is an individual competition.
  • Competitors must be working towards a Level 3 qualification or have qualified no more than 12 months previous to competition registration opening.
  • Competitors must be familiar with all of the core competences
  • There is no limit to the number of competitors permitted to enter this competition per organisation.

How it works

Registrations are now open and close midnight 28th March 2024.

The first stage of competition is a remote or online test, sent  when a competitor completes registration.

Competitors have one week to complete the task and the entry stage closes 5th May 2024.

Live Qualifiers start from 22nd May 2024

To help finalists prepare ahead of the UK Final, we will provide relevant technical training and share mindset development techniques, to support them to remain focused on achieving success.

National finals will take place between the 18th-22nd November 2024 in Manchester (venues TBC)

Competitors who are age eligible and have achieved the benchmark score will be invited to opt into Squad UK during December 2024 for the WorldSkills 2026 Cycle, subject to the skill progressing to the international competition cycle.
