Motor Vehicle technicians play a crucial part in modern life, repairing and maintaining a variety of motor vehicles including cars, motorbikes and lorries.

The Foundation Skills competitions have been created to showcase the skills of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), additional learning needs (ALN), or who require additional support for learning (ASL), who are currently undertaking a course with an FE or training provider at Entry level or level 1.

These competitions provide opportunities for students and learners to develop their vocational skills, wider skills for work, personal, social and independence skills.

The competition has been designed to reflect the practical, hands on skills of working in the motor vehicle industry.  The Foundation Motor Vehicle competition is designed to allow learners to demonstrate their understanding of conducting an inspection on a vehicle. Learners will use their practical and organisational skills to carry out a service check & record the faults found. The competition will assess an individual’s attention to detail, ability to work independently or as part of a team and their interpersonal skills & technical skills.

Entry criteria

  • This is an individual competition
  • The competition is for the learners working towards Level 1.
  • Competitors must be 16 years of age or over.
  • There is no limit to the number of competitors permitted to enter this competition per organisation

How it works

The first stage of competition is a remote or online test (where applicable)

Competitors take part in competitions in venues across the UK or online
