Overview

This competition directly links to a job as a hair and makeup artist specifically in film, tv and media. It will test skills across a broad range of hair, makeup and SFX applications and understanding. Having the range of skills is crucial to gaining a role as a trainee in TV, Film and Media which will be the first step into a career as a Hair and Makeup artist.

Entry criteria

  • Competitors should be working towards a level 3 qualification in a media makeup and hair related course.
  • They don’t need to have industry experience but any they do have will stand them in an excellent position.
  • Competitors should be entered at the tutors discretion.
  • This is an individual competition and competitors will compete against their own college class mates along with other colleges nationally.

How it works

Registrations open 9am on Monday 3 March and will close midnight Friday 28 March

Entry Stage will be released between Monday 3 & Friday 28 March with a final deadline of 2 May, 2025 (Exact dates will vary by competition).

Qualifier dates:

17 June: Abingdon & Witney College, Wootton Road, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 1GG.
18 June: Cardiff and Vale College, City Centre Campus, Dumballs Road, Cardiff, CF10 5BF.
25 June: York College, Sim Balk Lane, Bishopthorpe, York, YO23 2BB.
26 June: Wigan and Leigh College, Parson’s Walk, Wigan WN1 1RS.
27 June: Walsall College, Wiseman Campus, Littleton Street West, Walsall WS2 8ES.

To help finalists prepare ahead of the UK Final, we will provide relevant technical training and share mindset development techniques, to support them to remain focused on achieving success.

Prepare students and apprentices by engaging with our benchmarking resources to master their skills and mindset masterclasses to build confidence and resilience on the WorldSkills UK Learning Lab.

The National Finals are scheduled to take place in Wales during the week beginning 24 November, 2025.
