Preparations for next year’s WorldSkills competition began at Chichester College’s Brinsbury Campus last week.

The college hosted the country’s best young cabinet makers, joiners and carpenters for their first workshop since the selections were made for the UK squad in November.

During the three day intensive workshop, they were put through their paces by their training managers – including Chichester College lecturer Christian Notley – as they went back to basics to cover the fundamental skills of their trades.

And they were able to showcase their talent under the watchful eye of Nick Herbert, Member of Parliament for Arundel and the South Downs, who visited the Brinsbury Campus near Pulborough on Friday 11 March.

Nick Herbert said: “Competitions like Worldskills are so important for developing high standards of skills, in particular in trades and crafts.

“I am very impressed and proud, that the United Kingdom Team’s carpentry skills are developed at Brinsbury, in my constituency, and that all the students on the course are going on to find employment to support and grow our local economy.”
