The team of elite young apprentices and students met with Gavin Williamson MP as they gear up to represent the UK at WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
Members of Team UK met with Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson MP, at Westminster Kingsway College. The team showcased the incredible technical skills that have led them to being chosen to represent the UK in their chosen fields.
Mr Williamson met some of Team UK at Westminster Kingsway College, London where they were taking part in a warm-up event before heading out to Russia. On the visit he met with Tonicha Roberts, 22, whose specialist skill is Chemical Laboratory Technology, Jack Goodrum, 21, who will be competing in Carpentry, Collette Gorvette, 20, who will be showcasing her Restaurant Service skills, Ross Megahy who will be competing in Mechanical Engineering CAD and Owen Aldous, 20, who will be representing the UK in Cabinet Making.
Team UK is made up of the UK’s best, brightest apprentices and learners from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. They are heading to Russia to compete at WorldSkills Kazan 2019 from 22 – 27 August, each hoping to be crowned champion in their chosen skills.
The team of 37 young people will be competing in 32 different skills – from hairdressing and bricklaying to mechanical engineering and floristry. They’re going head-to-head with competitors from over 60 countries for the chance to be named the world champion in their field.
