What precautions are WorldSkills UK taking to protect those in Squad UK?

We are taking extra precautionary measures to safeguard all participants involved in the WSUK Talent Development Programme and are reviewing government guidance on a daily basis. All face to face training activity has been suspended until the end of June and we are working with Training Managers to explore alternative arrangements where possible.

If I am unwell and miss out on training will this prevent me from progressing?

Your health and wellbeing is of paramount importance, pleases follow NHS guidelines. Your Training Manager will be asking you to train remotely wherever this is possible and appropriate. However, your progression will not be directly impacted by your absence from training and every effort will be made to make alternative training available to you to support your skill development activity.

Will EuroSkills Graz be going ahead in September?

The WorldSkills UK team is in regular contact with WorldSkills International and EuroSkills who are closely assessing the situation and impact across all WorldSkills Nations. At the present time, there are no plans to postpone EuroSkills Graz or WorldSkills Shanghai, however, we will be in touch if and when further information is available.

How will I continue my training whilst I am in social isolation?

We understand that every skill is different, and it is very difficult to continue training when you have limited access to training space and equipment. We would ask that you keep in regular contact with your Training Manager, who is working on options for remote training activity over the coming months. Please be very clear with your Training Manager about any risks or challenges you may have with this.

How will you know that I am training safely at home?

Your Training Manager will work with you to complete a risk assessment for any high-risk training that they are asking you to complete at home. Please contact Chris Herron – Cherron@worldskillsuk.org – if you have any questions or concerns.

Is there anything else I can be doing to help with readiness for competition?

Please keep in touch and send your questions through to competitions@worldskillsuk.org . Look out for updates from the WorldSkills UK team and feel free to ask your Training Manager for advice on what you can be doing to develop your skills. We will also be offering a series of webinars hosted by our Coaches over the coming weeks.

I am worried about my son/ daughter participating in WSUK activities – what do I do?

Raise your concerns with the Training Manager for the skill, or alternatively, email the Competitions Team at competitions@worldskillsuk.org with your contact details and one of the Team will be in touch. You can also get in touch with our call centre on 0800 612 0742 (option 1) or email enquiries@worldskillsuk.org

Is the bootcamp still taking place, if not, what is WorldSkills UK going to do? 

We are postponing the bootcamp scheduled to take place end of April.  In place of this, we are exploring a series of virtual workshops, we will be in touch with further information soon.  We are also reviewing government guidance on a daily basis and assessing the risk of the bootcamp scheduled in June 2020. We will contact you in the next two weeks to confirm whether this will be going ahead.
