Responding to the speech from CBI Director-General Tony Danker at the organisation’s Urban Revival conference where he stated that industrial clusters in every region are the only way to level up, Dr Neil Bentley-Gockmann OBE, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said:
“We welcome today’s announcement by the CBI, and agree that regions and nations throughout the UK should be empowered to help drive the economic recovery.
“But to succeed we need to see more focus on investing in high quality skills development, as higher standards in technical education and apprenticeships will help fuel productivity, secure foreign direct investment and create jobs.
“That is why we, at WorldSkills UK, have started working with further education colleges and training providers across the regions and nations to embed insights from our international benchmarking programmes to help improve teaching standards and boost skills quality to world-class levels, as commended in the recent Skills for Jobs White Paper for England.
“We look forward to playing our part in the CBI’s new vision for the UK economy as we grow our programme to mainstream our unique insights from global best practice in skills development to help tackle regional inequalities, supporting more young people, communities and the economy to succeed.”
