Arron Luker, from South Wales, will be competing in Cyber Security alongside his teammate Max at WorldSkills Lyon. Arron’s journey with WorldSkills UK began while studying at the University of South Wales, where he studied Applied Cyber Security. His early accomplishments include competing at the regional level and winning a bronze medal at the WorldSkills UK National Finals with Max.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Arron said, “The journey has been fantastic and intense. Training has occurred at least once a week for as long as I can remember. If it’s not skills-specific training, it’s attending the WorldSkills UK training camps where we not only develop our skills but also train ourselves.”
For over two years, Arron has worked as a Technical Lead at Sudo Cyber. When asked how his role has influenced his competition experience, Arron responded, “My role and the competitions complement each other. I can apply what I learn from competitions to my job and vice versa.”
Arron’s international experience includes participating in national finals in France, where he had his first taste of the global stage. He was impressed by the scale of the event. Arron and Max also have had the opportunity to take part in international pressure test in Taiwan, where they tested their skills against other countries, in preparation for WorldSkills Lyon in September.
Reflecting on his competition journey, Arron expressed awe at how far he has come. “I had no idea what to expect at the beginning. I’ve surprised myself along the way. My advice to anyone considering competition is to give it a go. Even if you don’t win, you will learn and gain so much.”
