Electrical Installation Competition

Overview

This competition has been designed to reflect the role of an electrical technician and the standards that are expected within the electrotechnical industry.

Competitors are expected to install a range of electrical and lighting circuits and containment systems including PVC/ PVC surface clipping, plastic conduit, trunking and cables.

They will be assessed on; measuring accuracy (within 2mm), horizontal and vertical alignment, electrical terminations, functionality, planning and installation, fault finding containment symmetry, inspection and testing, safe working practices , including application of health and safety requirements, and other technical skills. In addition to core electrotechnical skills, an electrician’s role in low carbon installation will be embedded throughout the competition.

This competition is managed by NET and is also known as SkillELECTRIC.

The skills you need to demonstrate

Positioning of components in relation to technical plans
Installing lighting and power circuits
Inspection, testing, fault-finding and rectification of installations
Correct functioning of electrical circuitry
Compliance with BS 7671: IET Wiring Regulations
Interpreting drawings and installations details

Entry criteria

This is an individual competition
There is no limit to the number of registrations per organisation
Competitors must be familiar with the Core Competencies (these can be found in the ‘Useful resources’ section below)
Competitors should be either an electrotechnical apprentice or be working towards or have achieved their Level three technical qualification within the last 12 months

How it works

1. Register

Registrations open 09:00am Monday 3rd of March and will close midnight Friday 28th of March.

2. Entry stage

Entry Stage will be released between Monday 3rd of March with a final deadline of 2nd of May 2025 (Exact dates will vary by competition).

3. National Qualifiers

Qualifiers will take place between 5th of May 2025 to 27th of June 2025 (Exact dates will vary by competition).

4. Training and Development

To help finalists prepare ahead of the UK Final, we will provide relevant technical training and share mindset development techniques, to support them to remain focused on achieving success.

5. NET Celebration of Skills

The Top 2 highest scoring at each qualifier and all UK finalists will be invited to a prestigious industry event in London to celebrate their achievements.

6. National Finals

National finals will take place during a week in November 2025 in Wales.
